Golak Khandual - an artist par excellence.

Golak is an artist who draws and paints using pencil, charcoal, ink, water colour, oil and whatever other means to spread his creativity. He rarely "shows off" his work and usually refrain from exhibitions etc. We are lucky that he has put his creativity in pedastal for his fans and other artists to see. An exhibition of his creativity is currently going on in Kamaladevi Complex in India International Centre , New Delhi until Dec 14, 2025. You will also learn about his "style" and the vast canvas of his work when you go there.

Golak Khandual earned a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi in 1983. Early in his career, he freelanced as an architect, worked on film sets like 'Electric Moon' (1989-90), and trained in makeup for TV serials including 'In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones' by Pradip Krishen and Arundhati Roy.

Golak's paintings often depict societal themes such as womanhood, freedom, urbanization, and endangered species, inspired by real-life figures, Kathakali dancers, and diary doodles. He experiments with materials like ink, watercolors, and conte on paper, sometimes using broken crayons, his left hand, or feet. Recent exhibitions include "Heads and Tails" is featuring watercolours and drawings of portraits blending reality and imagination.

His designs emphasize ecology and community, including extensions to Laurie Baker's Corpus Christi School in Kerala, the Natural History Museum at Satpura National Park, conservation plans for Pachmarhi, prototype houses at Baba Amte’s Anandwan, and projects like Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park and Kishanbagh Sand Dunes restoration. He has lived and worked in locations like Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Wardha, and currently resides in New Delhi, also engaging in photography, writing, and teaching.
